Textile Workshop | Visible Mending
Saturday, October 7, 2023, 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Practice sustainability and extend the life of your textiles with artist, teacher, and author of Mending Matters and Make Thrift Mend, Katrina Rodabaugh. This workshop explores basic stitches and patterns; how to repair a garment based on fabric, thread, utility, beauty, design elements, and more; and culminates in the chance to repair a garment in need of mending. Basic sewing and stitching skills are required.
We will provide 100% cotton thread, metal needles, wooden ruler, and a handout. Participants may bring personal tools or use the provided shared tools.
Please bring:
- A textile made of woven fabric to mend: denim, linen, and cotton are great choices, as well as household textiles like quilts, tea towels, and tableclothes. This class will not cover stretchy fabrics like leggings or t-shirts.
- Patches of the same fiber and weight as the textile you wish to mend.
- Similar weight yarn, a tapestry needle, and darning egg if you wish to bring a knitted garment.
Our hands-on Textile Workshops highlight the essential role textiles play in everyday life — from our clothes to our home and building interiors — and aim to educate about and inspire sustainable textile choices that are healthier for the environment and the garment supply chain.
