Learning with Nature | Monarch Migration

Saturday, August 22, 10:30 am - 12:00 pm

Join Grace Farms Horticulture Director Kimberly Kelly and experts from Kansas State University for a hands-on field study to safely record, tag, and release monarch butterflies throughout Grace Farms 80 acres of landscape.

Learn how to net, tag, and record Monarchs in a way that supports the best outcome for healthy butterflies to survive migration, winter, the flight north in late spring, and successful reproduction in late summer. This workshop ends with our a cup of our butterfly pea flower tea and a culinary treat in the Commons.

Over the past few decades, monarch butterfly populations have declined by close to 90%. As a participant of the Kansas State University’s Monarch Watch program, Grace Farms has been working to increase the Monarch habitat and this summer we will be participating in the Monarch Watch tagging program.

Recommended for ages 12 and up. Due to uneven terrain for the field portion of the workshop, strollers, walkers and wheelchairs are not recommended.
