Join us in welcoming co-Producer, Writer, and Director, Katie Carpenter, as she presents the award-winning documentary, Warlords of Ivory. The film follows investigative journalist Bryan Christy as he sets out on a groundbreaking mission to expose how the ivory trade funds some of Africa’s most notorious militias and terrorist groups. Working with one of the world’s top taxidermists, he conceals a sophisticated GPS tracker inside a faux ivory tusk and drops it in the heart of ivory poaching country. He then monitors its movements to track down the kingpins of the ivory trade. A Q&A will follow the film.
Warlords of Ivory helped to launch the 2015 African Elephant summit at the Jackson Hole Wildlife Film Festival and has won several awards, including a 2016 Emmy nomination for Outstanding Cinematography in a Documentary, Best Conservation Film at the New York Wild Film Festival, Best Conservation Film at the 2016 Science Media Awards & Summit, and Best Issues and Solutions Film at the 2016 United Nations/C.I.T.E.S.
