Milkweed Planting and Care
Milkweed Planting and Care:
- Keep indoors, until danger of frost has passed
- Plant in full sun, spaced 2-3 feet apart
- If you don’t want the milkweed seeds to disperse, remove the pods before they open
- The milkweed plant grows to be between 1 and 3.5 feet tall. Take care choosing where to plant your milkweed. Because it has a taproot, it’s difficult to relocate once it’s established
- In the fall, cut your milkweed down to 6” stalks in the fall, after the pods have opened
- Use caution when pruning. Milkweed sap can be an irritant to eyes and skin! Please also note that this plant is mildly toxic to cats and dogs
