Young artists\, ages 3 to 10\, and their adult caregivers are invited to spend time together experimenting with new materials and techniques during this facilitated program series. \nDiscover the River | From Plants to Paint \nDiscover the River building and our permanent artworks using all of your senses to explore line\, shape\, color\, texture\, sound\, space\, light\, movement\, and rhythm. Harvest colors like safflower yellow\, tansy blue\, and amaranth red by foraging for plants in the raised beds of our Community Garden\, then transform them into pigments to make paintings in the Studio. \n  \nPlease note that the materials fee is $5 per child\, payable by credit card at the West Barn Welcome Center. Parents or guardians are required to stay with their children.

Learn about biodiversity and the variety of living organisms and ecosystems that exist in our area. \nMark Fowler is the Nature Initiative Director at Grace Farms Foundation and serves as Chairman of Wildlife and Conservation for the Explorers Club\, where he works to save endangered species on a local\, national\, and international level.

Explore Grace Farms’ 80-acre preserve and enjoy programs and activities highlighting the importance of preserving woodlands and wildlife. \n  \n10 am – 12 pm \nManaging Meadows\, a conversation with Penn Marchael\, Project Manager at Larry Weaner Associates\, about how to grow and nurture the native meadows where bees\, butterflies\, and birds thrive \nNative Plants\, stations where families can learn more about how our area’s local plant species contribute to biodiversity \n  \n10:30 am – 2:30 pm \nOpen Arts Studio for Families\, a facilitated workshop where children and families can create art inspired by the diversity of tiny insects and wild plants that live in Grace Farms’ meadows. \n  \n12 – 1 pm \nThe Biodiversity of Birds of Prey\, a demonstration with Master Falconer Brian Bradley \n  \n1 – 2 pm \nNature Walk | Native Birds\, a guided birdwatching walk with Master Birder Frank Mantlik where visitors will discover the diverse species that live on Grace Farms’ 80-acre preserve (on-site registration required) \n  \n2 – 3 pm \nNature Walk | Preserving Biodiversity\, a guided walk with Aaron Lefland\, Executive Director of the New Canaan Land Trust\, through Grace Farms’ diverse ecosystems\, including open meadows\, woods\, wetlands\, and ponds (on-site registration required) \nCoexisting with Native Wildlife\, a demonstration on the beauty and diversity of our area’s wildlife featuring New Canaan Nature Center \n  \n3 – 4 pm \nThe Biodiversity of Birds of Prey\, a demonstration with Master Falconer Brian Bradley \n\nPlease note: Carpooling is recommended as our capacity during Earth Day will be limited to the Grace Farms parking lot.
