SUMMARY:Chef's Palate | Indigenous Influence
DESCRIPTION:Discover the defining flavors\, engaging stories\, and diverse cultural influences that shaped North America’s culinary heritage in this interactive workshop led by Grace Farms Pastry Chef and Educator Leah Jones. Explore how Indigenous traditions\, ingredients\, and historical events have helped to define today’s American palate — and gain a deeper understanding of how food reflects our collective history. \nChef’s Palate\, hosted by Grace Farms Pastry Chef and Educator Leah Jones\, is a family-friendly series of educational conversations designed to explore all the ways in which food intersects many aspects of our lives. \nLeah Jones has more than 15 years of food service and culinary experience and has been with Grace Farms since its opening in 2015. She leads recipe research and development for all baking and pastry programs. She feels strongly about creating a more sustainable and equitable food system\, both locally and globally\, and upholds a zero-food waste approach when it comes to baking. She holds a B.S. in Baking & Pastry Arts and Food Service Management from Johnson & Wales University.

SUMMARY:Tea Diplomacy in partnership with International House of Japan
DESCRIPTION:Learn about the remarkable role of tea diplomacy to address humanitarian issues at Grace Farms with one of the world’s leading experts in the field\, Kent E. Calder. \nCalder joins James Kondo\, Chairman of the International House of Japan\, for a timely conversation about the way tea ceremonies build community and connection across cultures. They will also explore the inspiration behind Calder’s newest book\, Chado Gaiko: Japanese Tea Diplomacy in a Global World. As part of the experience\, enjoy Grace Farms Tea & Coffee\, which reflects Grace Farms’ foundational commitment to sharing tea as a means of fostering grace and peace in the world. \nCalder is the Edwin O. Reischauer Professor and Director of the Edwin O. Reischauer Center for East Asian Studies at Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies. \nJoin us earlier in the day for a Grace Farms Tour of the River building and Barns designed by Pritzker Prize-winning firm\, SANAA. Explore the River building and its unique glass walls\, intended by SANAA to dissolve boundaries between people and the natural world\, and explore the many other places on site where tea is a communal part of dialogue and reflection. \nThis program is developed in collaboration with the International House of Japan and American Friends of the International House of Japan. \n
