SUMMARY:Voices of Culture | Bobby Sanabria Multiverse Big Band
DESCRIPTION:“Sanabria is known for conducting a large orchestra as if it were a small combo. Despite its size and multiplicity of instrumentation\, the band can turn on a dime from a concert jazz orchestra to a swinging dance band that can roar and whisper.” – T.J. English\, NY Times best-selling author and jazz aficionado\nDrumroll please! Bobby Sanabria Multiverse Big Band takes the Sanctuary stage on Saturday\, September 30th for our next Voices of Culture concert. \nSeven-time Grammy nominee Bobby Sanabria is a noted drummer\, percussionist\, composer\, arranger\, activist\, and a bandleader renowned throughout New York’s boroughs and beyond. As a drummer\, he has recorded and performed with legends\, including the “Godfather of Afro-Cuban Jazz\,” Mario Bauzá. \nSanabria is the Co-Artistic Director of the Bronx Music Heritage Center and is part of Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Jazz Academy\, as well as The Weill Music Institute at Carnegie Hall. He has conducted and performed as a soloist with orchestras including the WDR Big Band\, The Airmen of Note\, The U.S. Jazz Ambassadors\, and many more. Sanabria hosts WBGO’s Latin Jazz Cruise program.  \nVoices of Culture is a standout concert series curated by our Music Director\, Marcus G. Miller\, exploring beauty in different musical traditions. \nGrace Farms Members are invited to join us for a reception before the concert from 6 – 7:30 pm. SUMMARY:Textile Workshop | Visible Mending
DESCRIPTION:Practice sustainability and extend the life of your textiles with artist\, teacher\, and author of Mending Matters and Make Thrift Mend\, Katrina Rodabaugh. This workshop explores basic stitches and patterns; how to repair a garment based on  fabric\, thread\, utility\, beauty\, design elements\, and more; and culminates in the chance to repair a garment in need of mending. Basic sewing and stitching skills are required.  \nWe will provide 100% cotton thread\, metal needles\, wooden ruler\, and a handout. Participants may bring personal tools or use the provided shared tools.   \nPlease bring: \n\nA textile made of woven fabric to mend: denim\, linen\, and cotton are great choices\, as well as household textiles like quilts\, tea towels\, and tableclothes. This class will not cover stretchy fabrics like leggings or t-shirts. \nPatches of the same fiber and weight as the textile you wish to mend. \nSimilar weight yarn\, a tapestry needle\, and darning egg if you wish to bring a knitted garment. \n\n  \nOur hands-on Textile Workshops highlight the essential role textiles play in everyday life — from our clothes to our home and building interiors — and aim to educate about and inspire sustainable textile choices that are healthier for the environment and the garment supply chain.
