Harvest colors like safflower yellow\, tansy blue\, and amaranth red by foraging for plants in the raised beds of our Community Garden\, then transform them into pigments to make paintings in the Studio. \n  \nPlease note that the materials fee is $5 per child\, payable by credit card at the West Barn Welcome Center. SUMMARY:Open Arts Studio for Families
DESCRIPTION:Think\, play\, and create every Saturday\, from 10:30 am to 2:30 pm at Grace Farms! Young artists\, ages 3 to 10\, and their adult caregivers are invited to spend time together experimenting with new materials and techniques during this facilitated program series. \nDiscover the River | From Plants to Paint \nDiscover the River building and our permanent artworks using all of your senses to explore line\, shape\, color\, texture\, sound\, space\, light\, movement\, and rhythm. Harvest colors like safflower yellow\, tansy blue\, and amaranth red by foraging for plants in the raised beds of our Community Garden\, then transform them into pigments to make paintings in the Studio. \n  \nPlease note that the materials fee is $5 per child\, payable by credit card at the West Barn Welcome Center. Parents or guardians are required to stay with their children.

Moderated by Community Pastor Stuart Knechtle\, Mdiv\, MA\, MFT/MHC\, of Grace Community Church\, the discussion will feature Tom Hedrick\, one of the founders of the Partnership for Drug-Free Kids\, who brings 30 years of inspiring hope in people caring for a loved one suffering from substance abuse; Dr. Frank Bartolomeo\, PhD a therapist and addiction specialist; and Paul Reinhardt and Kim Hyde\, two parents sharing stories of the battles they have endured as families dealing with addiction.

DESCRIPTION:Taught by certified instructors\, this informative course\, co-hosted with the Norwalk Department of Police Services\, is designed to educate women and girls on how to protect themselves and reduce their chances of becoming victims of assault and/or domestic violence. The five-week class—including lectures and physical resistance technique training—will address the prevalence of sexual assault on college campuses\, and the impact drugs and alcohol have on student behavior. \nThe course will meet on Tuesdays from January 30 through February 27. Admission is free\, but registration is required for the five-week course.

SUMMARY:Birdwatching at Grace Farms | Great Backyard Bird Count
DESCRIPTION:Join Master Birder\, Frank Mantilik\, and Grace Farms Nature Initiative Director\, Mark Fowler\, for guided walks of Grace Farms’ Walking Trails in search of winter birdlife. Birdwatchers of all ages and experience are invited to join us as we count the number and type of birds we see as part of the Great Backyard Bird Count\, Cornell Lab of Ornithology and National Audubon Society’s citizen-science project to collect data on wild bird species. \nWe’ll be walking on mown trails\, which may be wet\, so please wear appropriate footwear\,  dress for the weather\, and bring your binoculars. \nTours will be offered at 10 am\, 1 pm\, and 3:30 pm on Saturday\, February 17th. Registration is required.

A panel of experts will discuss how mindfulness\, meditation\, and prayer can help to foster greater compassion\, expand our capacity for joy\, and improve our ability to manage stress. \nThe panel includes Lynn Koerbel\, a teacher at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center for Mindfulness that focuses on the scientific\, evidence-based approach of mindfulness meditation through Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction; Reverend Steve Kanji Ruhl\, an ordained Zen Buddhist minister; and Pastor Bruce Halsted\, who will discuss the effectiveness of the Releasing Prayer model that has deeply impacted the lives and work of faith leaders around the country.
