SUMMARY:Textile Workshop | Visible Mending
DESCRIPTION:Practice sustainability and extend the life of your textiles with artist\, teacher\, and author of Mending Matters and Make Thrift Mend\, Katrina Rodabaugh. This workshop explores basic stitches and patterns; how to repair a garment based on  fabric\, thread\, utility\, beauty\, design elements\, and more; and culminates in the chance to repair a garment in need of mending. Basic sewing and stitching skills are required.  \nWe will provide 100% cotton thread\, metal needles\, wooden ruler\, and a handout. Participants may bring personal tools or use the provided shared tools.   \nPlease bring: \n\nA textile made of woven fabric to mend: denim\, linen\, and cotton are great choices\, as well as household textiles like quilts\, tea towels\, and tableclothes. This class will not cover stretchy fabrics like leggings or t-shirts. \nPatches of the same fiber and weight as the textile you wish to mend. \nSimilar weight yarn\, a tapestry needle\, and darning egg if you wish to bring a knitted garment. \n\n  \nOur hands-on Textile Workshops highlight the essential role textiles play in everyday life — from our clothes to our home and building interiors — and aim to educate about and inspire sustainable textile choices that are healthier for the environment and the garment supply chain.

SUMMARY:Films about Food | Sustainable
DESCRIPTION:“Agriculture is the number two culprit in climate change.” \nJoin us for a screening of Sustainable\, a documentary showcasing some of the most challenging agricultural issues faced by our food system\, and the community of leaders determined to fix them. Hopeful and optimistic\, Sustainable follows a seventh-generation farmer\, Marty Travis\, in central Illinois whose land and community buckled to the pressures of big agribusiness. \nSustainable is narrated by filmmakers Matt Wechsler and Annie Speicher of Hourglass Films. It has been screened at over 40 film festivals worldwide and won the 2016 Accolade Global Humanitarian Award for Outstanding Achievement. \n  \n  \nThis screening is part of our Films about Food series\, inviting all into our food equity work through a series of screenings examining various aspects of the world’s food systems. From community and consumer choices to regenerative agriculture\, these films inspire and give hope for how individuals and institutions are adapting for greater equity and sustainability.”
