SUMMARY:For the Life of the World | A Conversation with Miroslav Volf and Matthew Croasmun
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a conversation with world-renowned theologian Miroslav Volf and co-author Matthew Croasmun about their new book For the Life of the World: Theology that Makes a Difference. Hear about their research and examination of what constitutes a flourishing life\, and discover how we can meet the cultural challenges of an ever-changing world. \n  \nAbout the book | For the Life of the World: Theology that Makes a Difference by Miroslav Volf and Matthew Croasmun \nThe question of what makes a life worth living is more vital now than ever. In today’s pluralistic\, post-secular world\, universal values are dismissed as mere matters of private opinion\, and the question of what constitutes a flourishing life–for ourselves\, our neighbors\, and the planet as a whole–is neglected in our universities\, our churches\, and our culture at large. Although we increasingly have the technology to do almost anything\, we have little sense of what is truly worth accomplishing. \nIn this provocative new contribution to public theology\, world-renowned theologian Miroslav Volf (named “America’s New Public Intellectual” by Scot McKnight on his Jesus Creed blog) and Matthew Croasmun explain that the intellectual tools needed to rescue us from our present malaise and meet our new cultural challenge are the tools of theology. A renewal of theology is vital to help us articulate compelling visions of the good life\, find our way through the maze of contested questions of value\, and answer the fundamental question of what makes a life worth living. \n  \n

SUMMARY:Carrie Mae Weems Performance of Past Tense
DESCRIPTION:Sign up for updates on Carrie Mae Weems during her extended residency at Grace Farms. \nCritically acclaimed artist Carrie Mae Weems\, deemed “one of the more interesting artists working in the gap between art and politics” by The New York Times\, presented Past Tense on March 23\, a new performance-based work featuring singers Eisa Davis\, Francesca Harper\, and Imani Uzuri; poet Carl Hancock Rux; dancer Vinson Fraley; and musicians Craig Harris\, Eddie Allen\, Calvin Jones\, Adam Klipple\, James Brandon Lewis\, and Tony Lewis. Through music\, text\, projection\, and video\, the performance explores the enduring significance of the iconic character Antigone and her profound relevance to our contemporary moment. \nThe origins of Past Tense lie in Weems’s powerful work Grace Notes. Weems says\, “While working on Grace Notes for months it occurred to me that I was telling the story of Antigone\, wherein an innocent man dies by unjustified means\, and his sister fights for the right to bury him honorably. But the wider community refuses her; her right to justice\, and to peace\, is denied.” \nPast Tense is produced by THE OFFICE performing arts + film: Noah Bashevkin\, Laurie Cearley\, Olli Chanoff\, Rachel Chanoff\, Gabrielle Davenport\, Catherine DeGennaro\, Diane Eber\, Chloe Golding\, Lynn Koek. \nCarrie Mae Weems also presented a Lecture at Grace Farms on Friday\, March 15. \nTo learn more about Carrie Mae Weems’ work visit the CT Post profile on the artist. \nAbout Carrie Mae Weems \n\nCarrie Mae Weems was born in Portland\, Oregon (1953) and currently lives and works in upstate New York.
