SUMMARY:Grace Farms Lectures with Concert | Dr. Miroslav Volf
DESCRIPTION:Join Dr. Miroslav Volf\, one of the most significant religious thinkers of our time\, as he creates the opportunity to pause and consider one key aspect of a life that is worthy of our humanity: the practice of forgiveness. \nHe will show why we cannot dispense with it in our conflict-ridden world\, how systems of interaction on which we depend falter when forgiveness is absent\, and how we ourselves are diminished without it. Why is forgiveness at once so hard and one of the most creative and hopeful things we humans are capable of doing? \nVolf is the author of more than 20 books\, including Exclusion & Embrace — which was named one of the best 100 religious books of the twentieth century. \nHis talk will be followed by a moving chamber music concert featuring some of today’s most celebrated musicians: Adrian Anantawan & Lun Li\, violins; Celia Hatton\, viola; and Arlen Hlusko\, cello. This string quartet will perform a musical program responding to Volf’s body of work\, with pieces deeply rooted in spirituality. Register separately. \n  \nAbout Dr. Miroslav Volf\n \nProfessor Volf is the founding Director of the Yale Center for Faith & Culture. His books include Exclusion and Embrace: A Theological Exploration of Identity\, Otherness\, and Reconciliation (1996; revised edition\, 2019)\, winner of the Grawemeyer Award in Religion and named one of Christianity Today’s 100 most important religious books of the 20th Century; Flourishing: Why We Need Religion in a Globalized World (2016); The Home of God: A Brief Story of Everything (2022)\, co-authored with Ryan McAnnally-Linz; and\, most recently\, co-authored with Matthew Croasmun and Ryan McAnnally-Linz\, Life Worth Living: A Guide to What Matters Most (2023). \nA member of the Episcopal Church in the U.S.A. and the Evangelical Church in Croatia\, Professor Volf has been involved in international ecumenical dialogues (for instance\, with the Vatican’s Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity) and interfaith dialogues (including the Muslim and Christian “A Common Word” initiative)\, as well as a participant in the Global Agenda Council on Values of the World Economic Forum. A native of Croatia\, he regularly teaches and lectures in Central and Eastern Europe\, Asia\, and across North America. Amongst his many invited lectureships\, he has given the Dudleian Lecture at Harvard University; the Chavasse Lectures at Oxford University; the Waldenstroem Lectures at Stockholm School of Theology; the Gray Lectures at Duke University; the Stob Lectures at Calvin University; and the Cadbury Lectures at the University of Birmingham. These classes\, for all levels of experience\, focus on restoring and igniting the energy needed to live a more balanced life. To enhance the wellness experience\, each class includes a cup of tea from Grace Farms Tea & Coffee\, a Certified B Corp\, picked specifically to complement the movement. \nAbout Brittany Battis\nBrittany Battis is a nurse\, athlete\, and certified Running Coach. Her running resume includes a marathon personal best of 2 hours and 59 minutes and 17 minutes 59 seconds in the 5k. Brittany works with athletes ranging from beginner walk/runners to experienced marathoners. She provides 1:1 customized coaching built to each individual’s needs\, history\, skill level and goals and strives to not only uplift and inspire her athletes to go the distance but also guide their training in a smart\, strategic and fun way. She wears many hats as a running coach and most would say she is also a cheerleader\, friend\, mentor\, and your number one fan.

DESCRIPTION:Step into the Pavilion to explore and taste the differences between the white and green teas. \nLed by Tea Expert Frank Kwei\, this tranquil and in-depth exploration of tea offers guests a taste of notable varietals from cultures around the world\, with demonstrations and more. \n  \nAbout Frank Kwei\nFrank currently serves in the role of Tea Expert and Educator focusing on special projects and tea programs at Grace Farms. He has been with Grace Farms Foundation since its inception\, starting as the Director of Hospitality where he served as a welcoming ambassador for Grace Farms. In that role\, he often provided a first introduction to Grace Farms and its work by pausing over tea in the Pavilion\, a reflective space in the River building with 360-degree views of natural landscapes. \nIn his current role\, Frank is Grace Farms’ resident Tea Expert\, where he welcomes the public with a simple cup of tea and invites them into a deeper appreciation of the intentionality of SANAA’s architecture and the impact of the Foundation’s work to advance good in the world. \nBefore joining Grace Farms\, Frank co-founded and managed a boutique tea company based in Brooklyn\, New York\, and spent several years focused on the sourcing and supply chains for tea ingredients. Frank has brought that experience to the Foundation’s work on ethical and sustainable supply chains across sectors\, including tea\, coffee\, food\, and architecture. Frank hosts a wide variety of tea education programs on the vast world of tea\, its history\, and on the ethical and sustainable production of tea and coffee. This serves as a critical entry point to educating people about ethical and sustainable supply chains in other fields.
