SUMMARY:Life Worth Living Curriculum Development Workshop for Educators
DESCRIPTION:August 10 | 10 am – 8 pm & August 11 | 8:30 am – 3 pm \nExperience one of Yale’s most popular undergraduate courses\, “Life Worth Living\,” and design your own adaptation of the curriculum! \nIn training teachers and expanding this curriculum to reach secondary schools\, we aim to help educators bring critical questions and new approaches to thinking to their many students who will grow into our next generation of leaders. \nThe Connecticut Association of Independent Schools and the Yale Center for Faith & Culture are excited to partner with Grace Farms to launch the second iteration of this workshop. \n \n\nAbout Life Worth Living\nDay-to-day\, we live our lives solving problems\, taking on projects\, trying to achieve our goals\, and sometimes questioning just what it is we are hoping to accomplish. But deeper questions are always there\, often just beneath the surface: What kind of life would be truly worth wanting? What kind of world would be truly worth seeking? How ought I to live? \nThrough encounters with texts from major religious and philosophical traditions\, dialog\, and personal reflection\, the Life Worth Living course guides participants into some of the fundamental questions that shape our lives. Learn more about Yale’s Life Worth Living Program. \nFive years ago\, Grace Farms hosted the first-ever Life Worth Living course outside of Yale University\, inviting a broader audience into the curriculum. Learn more about the Grace Farms Life Worth Living Program. \n\nWho is this for?\nThis workshop is designed for faculty and administrators from middle and high schools (5th-12th grade). We welcome individual educators or groups from a school or district. \nIdeal candidates for this workshop are educators who are interested in engaging with timeless questions\, dialogue across enduring lines of difference\, and building critical thinking skills and social and emotional competence in students. \nLife Worth Living can work well in a variety of classroom settings\, including but not limited to advisory courses\, religion\, philosophy\, health\, social studies\, or literature classes. It can also provide a common framework for students at a school to talk about beliefs and values. \n\nParticipant Experience\nJoin us for a two-day workshop on August 10th and 11th\, held at Grace Farms in New Canaan\, CT. During the first day\, participants will experience a session of the Life Worth Living course\, learn about its history and impact\, and connect with other members of the cohort. On the second day\, educators from each school will work together during rigorous workshops to create a unique curriculum that best fits their school. Working within a thematic template\, the teams will select and discuss appropriate texts from an archive of philosophical and religious traditions. At the conclusion of the workshop\, each school will have created a course syllabus of their own to pilot. \nDay 1\n10 – 10:30 am | Registration\n10:30 am – 12:30 pm | Welcome and Introduction of Key Principles\n12:30 – 1:30 pm | Lunch\n1:30 – 2:30 pm | River Building Tour\n2:30 – 5:30 pm | Experience a session of Life Worth Living\n6 – 7 pm | Dinner at Hotel Even in Norwalk\n7 – 8 pm | Evening Session with guest speaker \nDay 2\n8:30 – 9 am | Breakfast at Grace Farms\n9 – 9:30 am | Workshop Introduction\n9:30 am – 12 pm | Workshop and Curriculum Design\n12 – 1 pm | Lunch\n1 – 2:30 pm | Workshop and Curriculum Design\n2:30 – 3 pm | Wrap-Up & Ending Reflection \n  \nGrace Farms Foundation strives to host events that are inclusive and accessible for all who wish to attend. SUMMARY:Alicja Kwade | ParaPosition Sculpture
DESCRIPTION:2025-2026 season opener\nExperience the opening of ParaPosition\, a remarkable sculpture by Alicja Kwade\, made of slim interlocking steel frames supporting four boulders and a blue chair made of bronze\, in celebration of Grace Farms’ 10 Year. \nAt 3 pm\, Kwade will join Grace Farms’ Chief Strategic Officer and Founding Creative Director\, Chelsea Thatcher\, for a conversation about her inspiration and the sculpture’s dialogue with our site and mission. \nAbout ParaPosition: \nParaPosition’s array of steel and stone draws viewers into the frame of this massive\, yet fragile\, universe. The substantial stones\, with their immense weight\, appear to defy gravity in an almost weightless balancing act. The chair beckons viewers to reflect on our relationship with the world and contemplate the fundamental nature of our existence. \n  \n“Alicja Kwade is approaching themes about society and human flourishing in the same spirit as we are at Grace Farms Foundation — imploring us to expand our perspective by asking questions. At Grace Farms\, we seek new outcomes on pressing humanitarian issues by breaking down silos and facilitating dialogue across sectors.” \n– Sharon Prince\, Grace Farms CEO and Founder \nImage courtesy the artist and 303 Gallery\, New York

As Broadway grappled with the loss of an entire generation of artists\, Tony and Grammy-nominated Michael McElroy (founder of the Broadway Inspirational Voices) saw in the community a profound need for hope\, unity\, and inspiration. He envisioned an organization where professional artists would come together and volunteer their gift to provide comfort\, joy\, and the promise of a better day–and as a result\, The Broadway Gospel Choir was born. This magical synergy of authentic Gospel soul and Broadway bravura was re-imagined as the Broadway Inspirational Voices in 1999 and they have been the theatre community’s center of support and celebration ever since. In 2019\, The Tony Awards Administration Committee presented the Tony Honors for Excellence in the Theatre to four outstanding contributors to the Broadway industry\, and Broadway Inspirational Voices was a recipient. The Tony Honor was a resounding endorsement of Broadway Inspirational Voices’s enduring work and impact and in celebration of 25 years of service. In 2020\, McElroy hand picked composer/singer Allen René Louis to become the new Artistic Director for Broadway Inspirational Voices. Broadway Inspirational Voices’s diverse membership has represented over 140 Broadway shows since its inception. \n  \nKnow Before You Go\nPlease review the day-of details below to help you plan your visit: \n \n  \nMusic at Grace Farms\nExperience Grace Farms’ distinctive\, daylit acoustic music performances in the glass-enclosed Sanctuary\, against the backdrop of 80 acres of natural landscapes. SUMMARY:Grace Farms Lectures with Concert | Dr. Miroslav Volf
DESCRIPTION:Join Dr. Miroslav Volf\, one of the most significant religious thinkers of our time\, as he creates the opportunity to pause and consider one key aspect of a life that is worthy of our humanity: the practice of forgiveness. \nHe will show why we cannot dispense with it in our conflict-ridden world\, how systems of interaction on which we depend falter when forgiveness is absent\, and how we ourselves are diminished without it. Why is forgiveness at once so hard and one of the most creative and hopeful things we humans are capable of doing? \nVolf is the author of more than 20 books\, including Exclusion & Embrace — which was named one of the best 100 religious books of the twentieth century. \nHis talk will be followed by a moving chamber music concert featuring some of today’s most celebrated musicians: Adrian Anantawan & Lun Li\, violins; Celia Hatton\, viola; and Arlen Hlusko\, cello. This string quartet will perform a musical program responding to Volf’s body of work\, with pieces deeply rooted in spirituality. The program is curated by Grace Farms Artist-in-Residence\, Arlen Hlusko.  \n\nSchedule: \n3 – 3:45 pm\nDr. Miroslav Volf delivers Grace Farms Lecture \n3:45 – 4 pm\nTea & Coffee Break \n4 – 5 pm\nChamber Music Performance \n\nBegin your Grace Farms Lecture experience with a Life Worth Living Workshop\, led by Drew Collins\, Associate Research Scholar from the Yale Center for Faith & Culture\, from 1 – 2:30 pm on Saturday\, February 7th. Register separately. \n  \nAbout Dr. Miroslav Volf\n \nProfessor Volf is the founding Director of the Yale Center for Faith & Culture. His books include Exclusion and Embrace: A Theological Exploration of Identity\, Otherness\, and Reconciliation (1996; revised edition\, 2019)\, winner of the Grawemeyer Award in Religion and named one of Christianity Today’s 100 most important religious books of the 20th Century; Flourishing: Why We Need Religion in a Globalized World (2016); The Home of God: A Brief Story of Everything (2022)\, co-authored with Ryan McAnnally-Linz; and\, most recently\, co-authored with Matthew Croasmun and Ryan McAnnally-Linz\, Life Worth Living: A Guide to What Matters Most (2023). \nA member of the Episcopal Church in the U.S.A. and the Evangelical Church in Croatia\, Professor Volf has been involved in international ecumenical dialogues (for instance\, with the Vatican’s Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity) and interfaith dialogues (including the Muslim and Christian “A Common Word” initiative)\, as well as a participant in the Global Agenda Council on Values of the World Economic Forum. A native of Croatia\, he regularly teaches and lectures in Central and Eastern Europe\, Asia\, and across North America.
