SUMMARY:Beauty & Logic | la grande ligne
DESCRIPTION:How can math help hold a piece of music together? \nExplore what legendary French composer and teacher Nadia Boulanger described as la grande ligne\, or “the long line\,” with Grace Farms Music Director\, saxophonist\, and mathematician Marcus G. Miller. Enjoy musical performances by Miller and his band\, IWM\, while encountering the mathematical structures that make compositions meaningful. \nAbout Beauty & Logic\nBeauty and Logic is a unique math-meets-music experience fusing bold musical performances with brief dives into the math behind the sounds and vibrations. It is hosted by Grace Farms Music Director\, saxophonist\, and trained mathematician\, Marcus G. Miller\, who performs with this band\, Imagine With Marcus. \nAbout Marcus G. Miller\nMarcus graduated from Harvard University with a degree in Mathematics. After a short stint at a major hedge fund he moved to New York City to pursue music. He soon developed a reputation as a versatile and virtuosic player\, while studying music production and engineering under Grammy-Winning Engineer “Bassy” Bob Brockman (Notorious B.I.G\, Herbie Hancock\, D’Angelo). \nMarcus has performed at the Obama White House\, Madison Square Garden\, The World Economic Forum at Davos\, The Montreux Jazz Festival\, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert alongside Jon Batiste\, and Carnegie Hall. In addition\, he has worked with jazz giants ELEW and Jazzmeia Horn\, as well as major artists like The Fugees and Madonna. \nMarcus maintains his interest in mathematics and physics by giving talks and performances that combine Math and Music. SUMMARY:Beauty & Logic for High School Students
DESCRIPTION:How does the basic trigonometry of waves\, built from simple circles and right triangles\, give rise to hit songs? Join us for an extraordinary adaptation of Beauty & Logic\, where music meets math\, led by Grace Farms Music Director\, saxophonist\, and mathematician Marcus G. Miller. \nStudents will dive into the fascinating world of sound technology\, exploring how real-world sounds are captured\, processed by a computer\, and then brought to life again. Miller will unravel the concept of superposition by breaking down popular songs into their core components\, revealing how they relate mathematically and why audio files sometimes sound like “fuzzy blocks.” \nThis hands-on journey will transform how students interact with the music they love and inspire them to learn more about mathematics! \n  \nTo register a school group registration\, click here. \n  \nAbout Beauty & Logic\nBeauty and Logic is a unique math-meets-music experience fusing bold musical performances with brief dives into the math behind the sounds and vibrations. SUMMARY:Alicja Kwade | ParaPosition Sculpture
DESCRIPTION:2025-2026 season opener\nExperience the opening of ParaPosition\, a remarkable sculpture by Alicja Kwade\, made of slim interlocking steel frames supporting four boulders and a blue chair made of bronze\, in celebration of Grace Farms’ 10 Year. \nAt 3 pm\, Kwade will join Grace Farms’ Chief Strategic Officer and Founding Creative Director\, Chelsea Thatcher\, for a conversation about her inspiration and the sculpture’s dialogue with our site and mission. \nAbout ParaPosition: \nParaPosition’s array of steel and stone draws viewers into the frame of this massive\, yet fragile\, universe. The substantial stones\, with their immense weight\, appear to defy gravity in an almost weightless balancing act. The chair beckons viewers to reflect on our relationship with the world and contemplate the fundamental nature of our existence. \n  \n“Alicja Kwade is approaching themes about society and human flourishing in the same spirit as we are at Grace Farms Foundation — imploring us to expand our perspective by asking questions. At Grace Farms\, we seek new outcomes on pressing humanitarian issues by breaking down silos and facilitating dialogue across sectors.” \n– Sharon Prince\, Grace Farms CEO and Founder \nImage courtesy the artist and 303 Gallery\, New York
