DESCRIPTION:This comprehensive tour invites a closer look at the architecture of the River building and Barns. Take in 360–degree views of the surrounding landscapes while exploring the building’s sustainable design\, curated interiors\, and materials choices. During the tour\, sample a cup of tea from Grace Farms Tea & Coffee\, a Certified B Corp that demonstrates and educates about ethical and sustainable supply chains. \nThe River building\, designed by Pritzker Prize-winning firm\, SANAA\, holds LEED Gold certification for Building Design and Construction. A demonstration of our continuing efforts to be as sustainable as possible\, in 2024\, we were awarded Gold certification for Building Operations and Maintenance\, building on our LEED Silver certification in 2019. \nThe River building was awarded the prestigious 2014/2015 Mies Crown Hall Americas Prize (MCHAP)\, in addition to the AIA National 2017 Architecture Honor Award and AIA Connecticut 2016 Design Honor Award. \nApproved for AIA CES 1.5 LU

SUMMARY:Art in Nature | Bookmaking
DESCRIPTION:Join Grace Farms Assistant Director of Education and Artist Mary Janacek for a creative workshop where you’ll learn how to craft your own nature journal. Spend an afternoon making a unique hand-bound nature journal to record inspiration from the River building and surrounding 80 acres of meadows\, woodlands\, and other thriving habitats. This workshop will utilize basic bookbinding tools and techniques to create one-of-a-kind journals. Then\, follow a guided tour of the landscape to pause to collect observations in your customized book. \nAdults of all levels are welcome. Materials will be provided\, but participants are encouraged to bring anything\, such as papers or mark-making materials\, they would like to incorporate into their project. \nThis program takes place rain or shine. \nThe Art in Nature workshop series is led by visiting artists and Grace Farms staff\, inspired by the Grace Farms landscape and the Foundation’s five initiatives\, with instruction\, hands-on opportunities to practice new skills\, and a takeaway made by each participant.
