DESCRIPTION:Discover Grace Farms’ commitment to sustainability with a tour of our award-winning River building and the steps we have taken to reduce the environmental impact of our operations. Adam Thatcher\, Grace Farms Foundation’s Director of Operations will guide visitors through the minimal-impact design of the River building\, its energy-efficient construction\, and the sustainable practices of our everyday operations. Learn about our meadows and wet basins\, the lifecycle of food at Grace Farms\, and get a behind-the-scenes look at our geothermal systems. \nGrace Farms Sustainability Tours include a substantial amount of walking\, including time outdoors and between volumes of the River building\, so please wear comfortable shoes and dress for the weather. \nPlease note that this tour accommodates 15 participants\, and reservations are accepted on a first-come\, first-served basis. \n  \nGrace Farms Architecture and Sustainability Tours will be offered on Saturdays\, May 4\, May 11\, and May 18. \n  \n

SUMMARY:Birdwatching at Grace Farms | Spring Migration
DESCRIPTION:Join Master Birder\, Frank Mantlik\, and Grace Farms Foundation’s Nature Initiative Director\, Mark Fowler\, for a guided walk of Grace Farms’ Walking Trails in search of the spectacular birds migrating north for the summer. Birdwatchers of all ages and experience are invited to learn more about our local natural world and discover the species that make Grace Farms their home. \nWe’ll be walking on mown trails\, which may be wet\, so please wear appropriate footwear\, dress for the weather\, and bring your binoculars. \n  \nSpring Migration birdwatching walks are offered on Saturdays\, May 4\, May 11\, May 18\, and May 25. To learn more about our Nature Initiative and commitment to restoring wild\, read our blog on Pollinators. \n  \nFrank Mantlik \nFrank Mantlik works as a birdwatching leader for Sunrise Birding LLC (www.sunrisebirding.com). An avid birder and naturalist for over 40 years\, he has been active in many bird/nature organizations\, including the CT Ornithological Association (current vice-president\, past-president\, member CT Avian Records Committee\, bird identification workshop leader)\, CT Audubon Society (trip leader\, photo exhibits)\, New Haven Bird Club (lectures\, trip  and workshop leader)\, Saugatuck Valley Audubon Society (field trips\, lectures\, Christmas Bird Count). Also an accomplished photographer with many published credits (Audubon\, Birding\, North American Birds\, Birdwatcher’s Digest\, Field and Stream\, The New York Times). \n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:Open Arts Studio for Families
DESCRIPTION:Think\, play\, and create every Saturday\, from 10:30 am to 2:30 pm at Grace Farms! Young artists\, ages 3 to 10\, and their adult caregivers are invited to spend time together experimenting with new materials and techniques during this facilitated program series. \nDiscover the River | From Plants to Paint \nDiscover the River building and our permanent artworks using all of your senses to explore line\, shape\, color\, texture\, sound\, space\, light\, movement\, and rhythm. Harvest colors like safflower yellow\, tansy blue\, and amaranth red by foraging for plants in the raised beds of our Community Garden\, then transform them into pigments to make paintings in the Studio. \n  \nPlease note that the materials fee is $5 per child\, payable by credit card at the West Barn Welcome Center. Parents or guardians are required to stay with their children.
