On June 20th, in honor of World Refugee Day, the not-for-profit organizations IICONN, Full Court Peace, and Grace Farms, will host Peace in the Paint. The event will celebrate interaction and teamwork between eight middle school students from Ethiopia, Syria, Congo, Afghanistan, and Eritrea, and eight middle school students from the New Canaan area. Paired across community lines, these kids will have the opportunity to get to know each other through a recreational basketball clinic and game, and learn about their shared and various cultures. Between them, the boys who have recently moved to the U.S. speak 3 languages: Swahili, Arabic and Tigrinya and have a wealth of information about their experiences before and since arriving in the U.S. The New Canaan kids are eager to learn and, in turn, share their understanding about U.S. culture and living in the states.

Interested audience members are encouraged to attend, share in the celebration, and learn about the efforts of Full Court Peace which strengthens and educates local & global communities through basketball from founder Mike Evans, and IICONN, a Refugee Services Program dedicated to assisting adults and families who have fled war and persecution in their home countries resettle in the Connecticut area.

Audience members and participants, please share our Refugee Day celebration with those who cannot attend in person, using #peaceinthepaint on your social media.
